Christmas and Candlelight in Historic Washington

The Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives (SARA) announces that tickets are now available for the 20th Annual Christmas and Candlelight in Washington, Arkansas, scheduled for Saturday, December 2, 2006.  One of the most beautiful events of the holiday season in southern Arkansas is less than a month away.
Historic homes and buildings in Historic Washington State Park will be decorated in holiday style with natural materials.  Local church choirs will perform in the three historic churches.  High school choirs will perform in the 1940 WPA Gym, where the SARA Foundation, the support group for the Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives, will provide complimentary refreshments.
Daylight tours begin at 1:00 p.m.  At 4:00 p.m. this historic village is transformed into a Christmas wonderland, with the lighting of thousands of luminaries.  Stroll back in time and enjoy the beauty and wonder of this lovely town at its finest.
This event is sponsored by the SARA Foundation, Historic Washington State Park, and the Pioneer Washington Restoration Foundation.  Advance ticket sales benefit the Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives, which is a repository of historic books, maps, documents, photographs, and family records from the twelve southwestern counties of Arkansas.  The counties represented at the archives are Columbia, Hempstead, Howard, Lafayette, Little River, Miller, Nevada, Ouachita, Pike, Polk, Sevier and Union.
Tickets are $9.00 for adults, $4.50 for children 7-12 years of age.  Children 6 and under are free.  These prices are good until the day of the event, when the charge will increase to $10.00 and $5.00.  Surrey rides will also be available at the Candle Shop at $5 for adults, $2.50 for children 6-12 years of age and free for children 5 and under.  Williams Tavern will host a buffet supper for $8.95 plus tax beginning at 4:00 p.m. (No reservations—first come, first served.)
