The Arkansas State Archives houses approximately 13,000 cubic feet of state records and manuscript collections pertaining to the history of Arkansas and its people. These materials have been described and inventoried for ease of access. These inventories, called finding aids, are keyword searchable. This collection contains correspondence from John H. Jameson to his wife, Thirsaline, while he was a soldier during the Civil War, and Confederate currency.

Collection Title: J.E. Little Plantation records accretion
Dates: 1882-1979
Summary:

This collection contains materials pertaining to John Elijah Little, his family, their farm in Faulkner County, and their property and house in Conway. Included are deed records and personal correspondence relating to both properties, tax and business records for the farm at Lollie, bonds for the construction of a levee on the Arkansas River, pocket ledgers for farm business and construction of the Conway residence, as well as photographs and obituaries for most of the J.E. Little family.

This ledger contains invoices of dry goods purchased by the J.M. Richardson Company of DeValls Bluff, Arkansas, between 1907 and 1909.


Collection Title: Jobe, Thomas Jefferson diary
Dates: 1861 and 1867
Summary:

This diary describes activities of a Confederate soldier serving in Company B, First Arkansas Mounted Rifles, from the time of its organization at Des Arc in May 1861, until the beginning of August, when the company made it to Wilson’s Creek, Missouri, just before the battle there.


Collection Title: Johnson, Alexander A. papers
Dates: 1863-1879
Summary:

This collection consists of Civil War correspondence plus a journal and other items. The correspondence relates to locations in Tennessee and Georgia, and most were written from the battlefield. It is unknown who created the 1865-1879 journal.

Summary:

This collection contains correspondence to Charles B. Johnson and others, telegrams to and from Johnson, and Confederate States vouchers issued by Johnson to various persons.


Collection Title: Johnson, Rogerline photograph collection
Dates: 1952-1971
Summary:

This collection is comprised of photographic reproductions from black and white negatives of images taken by Rogerline Johnson, as well as promotional materials from a 2004 traveling exhibit of his work. The subjects and themes of Johnson’s body of work are of black life, the black experience, and the black community in the Arkansas Delta, primarily in Helena, Phillips County, Arkansas.

Collection Title: Jones, Myra papers
Dates: 1977-2007
Summary:

In 1937, Myra Lee Gutsche, was born to Ernest and Edith Anderson Gutsche in Butte County, South Dakota. While teaching music in Des Moines Iowa, she met and married Robert Patrick Jones in 1961 and they soon relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1976, Jones was elected to her first term on the Little Rock City Board of Directors. During her tenure she served four years as Vice-Mayor. When William F. Sherman’s seat in the Arkansas House of Representatives opened in 1984, Jones made the decision to run for state office. She won and remained in office until 1998. As a state representative, Jones worked on legislation that was close to her heart. She introduced and supported bills dealing with education, small business, and utilities. After her tenure in the legislature, Jones worked as a lobbyist for the Little Rock Realtors Association. Myra Jones died February 20, 2012, and is buried with her parents at Pine Slope Cemetery in Butte County, South Dakota. This collection contains her correspondence, campaign files, research materials, newspaper clippings, and other materials generated during her time on the Little Rock City Board of Directors and in the Arkansas House of Representatives.
