The next quarterly meeting of the Black History Commission of Arkansas is scheduled to be held on Monday, November 14th, 2016, at noon, in the Arkansas State Archives conference room at One Capitol Mall, Room 2B-215.
The Black History Commission of Arkansas collects materials on Arkansas’s black history and history makers for the Arkansas State Archives, and works to raise awareness of the contributions and impact that black Arkansans have had on the state’s history. The BHCA sponsors two annual workshops devoted to black history in February and June; and also administers a grant program that provides support for preservation and public programming projects related to Arkansas’s black history. The Black History Commission of Arkansas is administered by a seven-member board, appointed by the Governor with the approval of the State Senate. The commission meets quarterly throughout the year. Commissioners serve seven-year terms staggered with one term expiring each January.
