The Arkansas History Commission would like to announce the launch of its main webpage redesign. The fresh, new layout better utilizes the space of the page, and includes familiar links to information about the History Commission, details for planning visits, recent events, as well as links to the History Commission’s sub-sites on Arkansas folklife, Arkansas in the Civil War, the Arkansas Black History Commission, and the Catalog of Arkansas Resources and Archival Treasures (CARAT).
New features to the site include links to the Arkansas History Commission’s two satellite locations, the Southwest Arkansas Regional Archives (SARA) at Washington, Hempstead County, Arkansas, and the new Northeast Arkansas Regional Archives (NEARA) at Powhatan, Lawrence County, Arkansas.
Also new to the main Ark-ives page is a link to the newly-formed Arkansas Records Catalog, an ever-expanding site bringing together finding aids for historical collections in archives, historical societies and other repositories across the state, to better aid researchers in finding the materials they need. The aim of the site is to provide a way for historical societies and archives to raise awareness of their invaluable collections of historical documents for free, and to allow researchers to know which of the many historical repositories in the state holds the information they’re seeking before they leave home.
